Coughlin responded in a tweet, saying that there was a miscommunication and he's not ready for in-ring competition yet.

NJPW subsequently removed Coughlin from the tour and stated that he will miss some time due to a leg injury. As a result, The DKC will replace him.

The announcement, courtesy of NJPW's official website, is as follows:

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Alex Coughlin, who was announced this week for the Burning Spirit tour starting September 2 in Yokohama, will miss action due to a left leg injury.

We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Coughlin wrestle and appreciate your understanding.

Coughlin will be replaced in each of his matches on the tour by the LA Dojo’s The DKC. NJPW joins fans in wishing Coughlin a full, speedy recovery.

Coughlin 's most recent match came at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 26; he teamed with The DKC, Kevin Knight, and Yuya Uemura in a losing effort to Max Caster & The Gunn Club (Austin Gunn, Billy Gunn & Colten Gunn).
