Andre Chase: They Couldn’t Give Us A Reason For Splitting Chase U

Led by Andre Chase, Chase U became one of the most popular acts in NXT. The group, which featured Thea Hail, Duke Hudson, and others throughout its run, was arguably the most popular act at various points.

Despite the popularity of the group, they were split in 2024.

“When they tell me what they’re doing, they don’t really tell me why they’re doing it because they don’t have to,” recalled Andre Chase while speaking to Duke Hudson on Between Two Jobs when discussing the Chase U split.

He continued, Because I think this is a conversation, “I start from a business perspective, a numbers and dollars and cents perspective. I say, ‘I think this is a bad idea because…’ at Halloween Havoc, the merch guy pulls me aside and goes, ‘You sold just as much merchandise as Trick (Williams) and Roxanne (Perez), the champions. You did that at No Mercy, too. At Heatwave, you had the highest selling shirt.’ Chase U was almost like a secret. If you didn’t watch the show regularly, you wouldn’t know we were on the show. Trick and Roxanne are awesome and got what they deserve, but they were on every piece of advertising and were promoted heavily. We were that grassroots movement of, ‘We’re going to work hard and win each fan over one at a time.’ Chase U was always one of the most popular acts anywhere we went in the country. Whenever someone would say, ‘Chase U would never work on the main roster,’ the sample size we had in arenas, where main roster runs, was getting the biggest reactions. I talk about how we’re the highest-selling merch. I talk about how good our ratings are, which they already have to know because they book us in five segments a show. For every top guy in wrestling, the metrics they say are important, I’m telling them why we have achieved these metrics with very little advertising or help from them. From a business perspective, please tell me why (splitting us) is a good idea. They can’t. They just say, ‘This is the direction we’re going.’ That’s when I realized this wasn’t a conversation. They had already made up their minds.”

The group officially disbanded when Chase lost to Ridge Holland on the Novemebr 19, 2024 episode of NXT.

A reboot was tried in 2025, but failed to gain traction.

Elsewhere during the interview, Chase spoke on his WWE release, which came in April. You can find his full comments here.
