Andre The Giant Honored With Roadside Marker In North Carolina

Andre The Giant is being honored in North Carolina.

The Associated Press reports that Andre will be given a roadside marker in Ellerbe, North Carolina. Andre lived on a ranch just outside of the small town.

The Richmond County marker at NC Highway 72 and Old NC Highway 220 simply says “Andre The Giant. 1946-1993. Actor and professional wrestler. Was born Andre Roussimoff. Known for his role in The Princess Bride in 1987. Lived nearby.”

Andre was a larger than life WWE superstar, most famously headlining WrestleMania III against Hulk Hogan. Along with his success inside the ring, Andre starred in “The Princess Bride.”

The story notes, “He became a critical part of the Ellerbe community. In 1990, he taped TV and radio spots against a possible low-level radioactive landfill nearby. A pair of his size-26 cowboy boots are kept at a museum.”

He passed away in 1993 at the age of 46.

WWE honored Andre at WrestleMania 42, inducting his match against Hogan at WrestleMania 3 into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Immortal Moments wing. The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal is held every year before WrestleMania.
