Ariane Andrew has become a big wrestling fan.
Once known as Cameron in WWE, Ariane sat down with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc. and discussed what might be lacking in the company's Women's Division. First, she commented on Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair's historic WrestleMania main event and its significance.
"I never want to bash a place that gave me such an amazing opportunity to be where I'm at now, but I do think the thing that's lacking at the moment with the Women's Division is -- They went so far left with creating an evolution to have women who are badass, which is great. I think giving them an opportunity to main-event; Sasha and Bianca for WrestleMania, that's history," Andrew said. "When have we ever seen two black women. I'm not a person about race, at all, but to have that WrestleMania moment, that was major. To start to evolve -- You know, as life goes on you have to start to evolve, even if people aren't ready for it or people feel how they feel, you still have to be able to take a step back and go, 'Wow, that's awesome!'"
She continued on to say that repetitiveness has been an issue in the sense that it doesn't allow for new underdogs to emerge, which is who the fans want to root for.
"But what I will say, what's missing in the Women's Division is; A) If you start seeing the same thing, I don't care how talented someone is, that person who used to be the underdog that now has elevated, you start to almost become upset. Because now you want to see the next underdog or the next person get that opportunity because what I've learned, also as a fan watching, when I watch wrestling, and I've become a huge fan of wrestling is you want the underdog to prevail. That's why people watch wrestling because it's an average person who isn't rich, hasn't had these amazing things in life and when they look at someone who is an underdog, it's like looking at yourself. You're like, 'Damn, I want that person to have that because I feel like that's me,'" Ariane said.
Ariane was a contestant on Tough Enough Season 5 and worked from WWE from 2011-2016. In July 2020, she teamed with Nyla Rose in AEW's Women's Tag Team Cup Tournament, though they were eliminated in the first round. Outside of wrestling, she recently released a new single titled 'Born With It.'
