Asuka Says Her Arrival Changed WWE Women's Division

WWE changed for Asuka.

Asuka attended NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015 and officially signed with the company in September. Asuka's arrival to the company coincided with WWE's start of the women's evolution, which began in July 2015.

Speaking on a media call ahead of The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, Asuka said that her arrival helped change the women's division.

"Before WWE Evolution, they didn't have women's main events, but after the pay-per-view, the evolution totally changed and women started to main event. I want to keep topping Evolution. Me coming to WWE totally changed the division. I'm very proud. Other women's wrestlers were like, 'Asuka is coming in, we have to change," she said.

Asuka would call her decision to sign with WWE after becoming a star in Japan, "a great decision" due to WWE's global footprint.

Asuka is the reigning Raw Women's Champion and is set to defend her title against Sasha Banks this Sunday at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules.

Fightful will have live coverage of Extreme Rules beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday.
