Aubrey Edwards Discusses The Difficulties Of Refereeing AEW Blood & Guts

AEW held its first and only Blood & Guts match on May 5 with The Inner Circle battling The Pinnacle.

Blood & Guts was AEW's version of WarGames with ten wrestlers occupying two rings inside a large double cage. Since the match can only be decided when one team quits, referees stay on the outside during the bout, making communication more difficult than usual.

Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Aubrey Edwards discussed the difficulties of refereeing the Blood & Guts bout.

"As someone who was reffing that match, I cannot tell you how difficult it was to manage that match. It was probably one of the most difficult times I've had doing a match because I can't get in there with the guys and tell them where we're at or where we're going or where we are in commercial. I'm trying to not get caught on camera and trying not to be heard, but I'm literally yelling time cues to guys 20 feet away, hoping that they hear me, because we have this massive match. It's the main event and the main event is always the most stressful part of Dynamite because who knows, you have to be off the air at a certain time and we're relying on the wrestlers to make sure they hit those times. At one point, Bryce takes a bump because Tully takes him out and now I have to manage two cages and two rings. It was the most stress I've ever had," she said.

Since communication was tougher, Aubrey also noted that checking on wrestlers when they were down and potentially injured was stressful as she couldn't get close to directly check on them.

The Pinnacle (MJF, Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, Shawn Spears & Wardlow) defeated The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Santana, Ortiz, Sammy Guevara, & Jake Hager) in the Blood & Guts bout.
