Batista's WWE Royal Rumble 2014 Return Was Almost Foiled By A Broken Shoe

Dave Batista had a wardrobe malfunction before his appearance in the 2014 Royal Rumble.

The latest episode of WWE The Day Of chronicles Batista's return to the ring after a four-year absence. In the special, The Animal talks about how the zipper on his boot broke as he was preparing for the match. It came down to the wire, as he was still getting repairs done only six spots before he was set to enter. Here is what he said:

IWGP Heavyweight And Intercontinental Titles Unified By NJPW To Create IWGP World Heavyweight Title

"Of course, man, I have a new style of boots also, you know, kind of a lighter boot and the zipper breaks. So they start sewing up my boot and I'm going out number 28 in the Rumble. I'm sitting there watching the monitor as they're sewing my boot up and they're already on number 22. You know, it was chaotic but it just seemed like old times because every time we were getting ready for a show, everything goes wrong, man. Then you end up running from here to there and just nothing's going right. The biggest thing I was concerned about was not being able to warm up because I was still working with an injury and I knew I had to run into the ring and I wasn't sure how it was going to feel."

Batista would go on to win the 2014 Royal Rumble match, getting booed after eliminating Roman Reigns last. He would go on to the main event WrestleMania XXX where Daniel Bryan famously took the World Heavyweight Championship off of Randy Orton in their triple-threat match.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star is poised for a big 2021. Not only will he officially be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, but he will star in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead and Denis Villeneuve's Dune, both of which are currently in post-production.

Fightful will have live coverage of WWE Royal Rumble beginning at 6 p.m. ET on January 31.
