Bayley Explains The Origin Of Her In-Ring Name, And Why Lyra Valkyria Finds It Funny
Before she was Bayley in WWE, she worked as Davina Rose on the independent scene. Upon entering WWE, she immediately became Bayley.
Appearing on Six Feet Under with Undertaker and Michelle McCool, Bayley was asked if hey name came from the Bay Area given that she reps San Francisco.
Bayley explained, “I didn’t choose Bayley. In NXT, you have to give a list of your names. I wanted to use a unisex name because I felt like nobody was really doing that. I gave a list of unisex names. I don’t believe I chose Bayley. I don’t think that was on there. When they gave me my names back, it was a list of three different names. One was Bayley. One was Davia. Not Davina. I was like, ‘That’s not even a name.’ They were trying to get it close to my indie name. Rob Naylor, he was Dusty’s right hand man, I told him, ‘I don’t care for these, can I send in another list?’ He’s like, ‘I’m not supposed to tell you, but they want to put you on TV this week. You need to choose one of these or else you have to wait.’ ‘Okay, I’ll do Bayley.’ It was spelled BAI and I said, ‘Can I do BAY because I’m from the Bay Area?’ Lyra (Valkyria) makes fun of me. I don’t know why she thinks it’s so funny.”
Bayley and Lyra are tag team partners on WWE SmackDown.
Elsewhere during the interview, Bayley commented on what she might do after she finishes her in-ring career. You can find her full comments here.
