Becky Lynch and the Big Screen: 3 WWE Stars Who Could Offer Some Inspiration

Fresh from making an appearance on the Showtime series Billions, it looks like The Man may well be heading to the movies.

It is no secret that Becky Lynch has been linked with a move into Hollywood in recent months, but some intriguing rumors have now suggested that she may not be doing anything by half. In fact, there is speculation that she could be kicking off her big-screen journey in style by heading into one of the most popular cinematic franchises of them all.

A Marvel mega-star?

A host of sites including ComicBookMovie.com have reported on a tweet from Kris Tapley of Netflix’s The Call Sheet, which states that Lynch has been well and truly “grabbing Hollywood’s eye”. However, the more fascinating element of his message comes in brackets after that, as he states she is also in a “certain upcoming Marvel movie”.

Such suggestions are likely to send the internet into overdrive with speculation as to which movie it may be. An appearance in Black Widow might not be a huge surprise due to its focus on female-led action, although it could even be The Eternals too. However, whatever it is, it will be fascinating to see how any Hollywood career impacts on Lynch’s life in WWE. At the time of writing, sports betting provider William Hill has The Man at +1600 to win the 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble – but could her big-screen ambitions mean wrestling moves to one side for a little while?

Of course, Lynch is not the first WWE star to consider heading into Hollywood, so who are the key people she will be looking to seek inspiration from?

The Rock

Lynch has already revealed that Dwayne Johnson has been a huge help and she probably could not have a better mentor as she begins the journey into big-screen stardom.

Few stars are quite as successful as The Rock these days and he was even named the highest-paid actor in the world by Forbes last year. He has starred in a wide selection of films from action and adventure to even a Disney animation, while he has built a substantial business empire along the way too. If anyone can show Lynch the ropes, it is him.

Dave Bautista

Saying that, there is one obvious place that Lynch could go to for advice when it comes to Marvel blockbusters. Dave Bautista became a Hollywood star thanks to his impeccable comic timing in Guardians of the Galaxy, with that movie leading to appearances in a sequel and – of course – the hugely successful Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

He even bagged himself a role as a Bond villain in Spectre, while Denis Villeneuve not only cast him in Blade Runner 2049 but has also used him in his upcoming Dune adaptation.

Hulk Hogan

It could be argued that Hulk Hogan was the first wrestling star to make the move that Lynch is thought to be considering. In many ways, it could be said that he set the template for what many other stars have done, mixing more adult fare like Rocky III with the likes of Mr Nanny and Suburban Commando.

In a twist, there is actually a rumor that a biopic of Hogan is in development, with a Marvel actor apparently being lined up to star. According to the Hollywood Reporter in February last year, Chris Hemsworth is the man expected to take on the role.

A bright future ahead?

Things are certainly looking bright for Becky Lynch’s acting career if all of the reports are to be believed.

Many wrestling stars have attempted to make similar moves in the past, but the trio mentioned above may well be people who can offer a bit of inspiration as she looks to become a big-screen success.
