Becky Lynch: I Am The Gatekeeper Of Opportunites

Becky Lynch discusses what holding the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship means to her.

Becky Lynch has done nearly everything possible in WWE. She is currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion for the Monday Night Raw women’s division. At the moment, she’s playing a heel on WWE TV and challenging Lyra Valkyria. Valkyria once looked up to Lynch, and that is a common theme in their rivalry.

Becky Lynch talked with Michael Cole ahead of WWE SummerSlam 2025. During the interview, he asked her what it meant for her to hold the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Becky said it meant a lot because the gold was created to give more women opportunities, and she believes she’s the gatekeeper of those opportunities.

“Oh, it means everything. It means everything, because this title is a workhorse championship, and that’s what I am. It’s also a championship that was designed to give people opportunities, and I am the gatekeeper of opportunities. I can do for people’s careers what nobody else can. You look at Lyra, oh, she was a fine little champion. She was the first Intercontinental Champion, but look at her now, I have still elevated her like nothing else has, because I’m the greatest.”

Lyra Valkyria is set to face Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on Sunday, August 3, during the second night of WWE SummerSlam. The match will have a No DQ stipulation. If Lynch wins and retains the title, Valkyria won’t be able to challenge for this Championship again while Becky is the champion.

Fightful will have full coverage of SummerSlam as it airs. The show will begin at 6 p.m. EST on both Saturday and Sunday.
