Becky Lynch Says Original Plan Was Not For Her To Be First WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion: “I Think It Was Meant To Go To Nikki Bella”

Becky Lynch does not think she was meant to be the first holder of the title.

When WWE did its brand split in 2016, the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships were brought into the fold.

The first holder of the SmackDown Women’s Title was Becky Lynch. While appearing on No-Contest Wrestling, Lynch shared that she was not supposed to be the first champion. She thinks the belt was supposed to go to Nikki Bella.

“Even the first time that I won the SmackDown Women’s Championship, that wasn’t the plan… I think it was meant to go to Nikki Bella actually, who, by the way, like a badass, had just come back from her broken neck but, the audience kind of liked me… Once it was revealed, they just started chanting Becky, and so, kind of the office had to take notice of that and go, well, alright, I guess we gotta go with her. But I don’t think the plan was ever going to be give it to me again, unless I took it…”

Lynch’s reign lasted for over 80 days until she dropped it to Alexa Bliss. Lynch is now a seven-time WWE Women’s Champion.
