Ben Bishop Says Brian Myers Recently Told Him That He’s Too Funny For Wrestling
Ben Bishop might be too funny for the world of wrestling.
In recent years, Bishop has become a bit of a household name for fans of independent wrestling, as fans will gravitate towards the style of comedy that he brings to a section of the industry that prioritizes in-ring action over character work.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Bishop revealed that Brian Myers recently told him that he’s too funny for the wrestling industry.
“I’ve been trying to figure that out for 35 years of what I am. You know what’s funny? It was funny yesterday. Brian Myers said to me, he goes, ‘You know what your issue is? You’re too funny for wrestling. Your humor’s too good for this and that’s why you can’t get higher. You’re just too damn funny.’”
Bishop went on to note that he’s dabbled in the world of indie filmmaking before.
“There’s not many of us [seven foot tall guys]. There’s not many of us walking around. So no, I’ve actually dabbled in acting. I did a rom-com where I was the bad guy, which was really cool. It was an awesome experience. Indie filmmaking too is so much like indie wrestling, but the best part is that they’re always like, ‘Do you need anything? Do you need a water? Do you need a snack?’ I’m just like, ‘Guys, I’m good.’ But the one thing that bugs me about it, they take so much time and I just want to get to it. It’s like more takes, more takes, more takes, and I’m like, ‘We’re just used to doing it once and doing it live,’ and I just want to do it live. Like, let’s go with next step. They’re just like, ‘No, we gotta do it again. We gotta do it again.’ I’m like, ‘Ugh.”
