Billie Kay and Peyton Royce were inseparable for a long time before they were forced to split after losing a tag team match to Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan. Now, Billie is reflecting on her WWE tryout alongside her former tag team partner.
When living in another country, coming to the states for your dream job can be a difficult task without all of the proper forces working in your benefit. Luckily for The IIconics, they had a laser focused approach to their tryout and became the only two people signed to the WWE following the entire tryout in Australia.
“So we both got an email very early in the morning saying that they would want to offer us a contract and hire us,” Kay told Chris Van Vliet. “We both kind of freaked out with our families, was crying a bunch, and then I called her and she answered and we both said 'hello,' and then there was just silence. We were just waiting on what the other person was going to say. I think I said it first and then she said it first and then we were just like, absolutely ecstatic. But, yeah, she's the first person I called when I found out. I mean, that whole tryout experience, we would just like laser-focused. We went in there and we were just inseparable through the whole tryout as well.”
She continued, “It kind of just happened because we both had the same goal. Like we were both just adamant on getting the tryout in the first place. [Peyton] was living in Melbourne at the time. So we both kind of like had our separate journey. But then we knew that there was a tryout coming out and when we found out that we'd both be there, it was kind of like, oh, okay, awesome. And it was quite a large tryout that was like 40 people there from Australia and we were the only two signed from that tryout. So that just makes it super special.”
