A Multnomah County Judge Wednesday ordered Billy Jack Haynes (real name William Albert Haynes) to be sent to the Oregon State Hospital, ruling he is unfit to assist in his own defense.
Hayes was arrested and charged in February 2024 with the domestic violence murder of his 85-year-old wife Janette Becraft. He is charged with second-degree murder (domestic violence) and unlawful use of a weapon.
A certified evaluator assessed Haynes' behavior at the hearing, reviewed statements from his attorneys, and considered stipulations from both the defense and prosecutors, all of which indicated that he is unfit.
Court records stated another hearing on Haynes fitness will be held May 20. He has waived his right to a hearing twice, in April and May of 2024.
His trial is currently set for December 2025. That is in doubt as court records say he could be committed to the Oregon State Hospital anywhere from one to three years.
Haynes hasn't wrestled since 1995. He largely worked in the Pacific Northwest during the 80s before WWE from 1986-1988.
