Bobby Lashley Says Facing Drew McIntyre Will Be As Big As Facing Brock Lesnar

Bobby Lashley may not be getting a match against Brock Lesnar anytime soon, but a match against WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will feel just as big.

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Lashley spoke on the match against Lesnar that never came, with Lashley believing that it was going to happen after returning to WWE in 2018 and beating Roman Reigns at that year's Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Now that Lesnar lost the WWE Championship to McIntyre at WrestleMania, it might be a while before Lashley gets that particular match.

However, Lashley is just as excited for a match against McIntyre, drawing parallels between Lesnar and McIntyre.

"We are fans the same way – well, at least I am – the same way everybody else is. When I heard the winner gets Brock, I was like, is this it? Am I finally getting it? Then it’s ‘not now!’ I don’t know what the situation is. I don’t know what the case is. But I do believe eventually it will happen before Brock and I are senior citizens. The one thing that people – and I don’t want to switch gears here – but Drew McIntyre is a Brock Lesnar. He definitely is. I think that a matchup with Drew is just as exciting as Brock, to me, if done right," Lashley said.

This doesn't mean that his desires for a match against The Beast are over. Lashley still wants that match to happen someday and believes that it will.

"Of course, I want the Brock match. I’m not erasing that [laughs]. But I think both of those matches are great matches. I think eventually the dots will be connected and I think right now with the right people in the right places, I think a lot of really big things could be happening," Lashley said.

Towards the end of the May 18 episode of Raw, Lashley, accompanied by MVP, stated his intent to challenge for McIntyre's title. That match was made official the next day when WWE announced that the two will battle it out for the WWE Championship at next month's Backlash.
