Booker T: Brock Lesnar Should Get An Award For Worker Of The Year

Booker T gives his thoughts on Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar.

Cody Rhodes finished his chapter with Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam, defeating "The Beast" with three Cross Rhodes to win the trilogy, 2-1. The rivalry started the night after WrestleMania 39 when Lesnar turned on Cody after initially agreeing to be his tag team partner against Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa.

Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T gave his thoughts on the bout.

“It was a great match. It didn’t have a whole lot of jumping off or anything. It was just two guys going out there, fisticuffs, fighting. The storytelling was really, really awesome. The Rocky Balboa versus the Russian came in there for a moment, that never say die Rocky attitude, you can just beat on me and beat on me, I’m gonna find a way to win. It was poetic, it was great. It was one of those matches that every guy on the card, if they’re wondering what it means to work at a main event level, look at that match, and it’ll tell you everything you need to know because wrestling is the art of going out and creating the illusion of a fight, a real fight, and those guys, they did that for me," he said.

Booker continued, "It’s one of those things, man, those kind of stories, they never die. Those stories, I think wrestling fans can appreciate forevermore because that’s what wrestling is, really making you feel like you’re watching something that’s real. You know exactly what it is, you know what you paid to see. But when those guys make you feel like that, you can’t wait to see more, and that’s the beauty of this thing called wrestling. It’s the Shakespeare, the Romeo and Juliet, the Phantom of the Opera part for me that makes me go, ‘Man, I love this business.’ Brock Lesnar, what a worker. What a damn worker. I mean, come on. Brock should get the award of the year, as far as worker of the year, as far as I’m concerned. That’s how good he really made that match on Saturday night."

After the bout ended, Lesnar shook hands with Cody, in an unplanned moment according to Triple H.

Speaking on the embrace by Brock, Booker said, "I know how good Brock is. It just tells me how far he’s come. He’s come a long way. He knows what the business is about. He knows that it’s not about him. That’s the part that I respect more than anything. He understands about passing the torch and passing it properly. It was just real, it was as real as it could possibly be, that match, from top to bottom, from the beginning to the end. You can’t draw it up like that, I don’t think, really. You got your blueprint as far as the way you want to go, but that was like old-school, being able to listen to the fans and follow the breadcrumbs like Hansel and Gretel."
