Brandi Rhodes: I Made A Commitment That I Would Not Be A Major Focal Point In The Women's Division

On the Jan. 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, Awesome Kong & Mel were scheduled to take on Kris Statlander & Hikaru Shida in tag team action. Unfortunately, Kong could not compete and she was replaced by Brandi Rhodes.

Brandi went on social media to take credit for saving the match, which turned out to be one of the roughest contests in AEW Dynamite history. The match was marred with timing issues and botches, eventually ending with Shida & Statlander picking up the victory.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Brandi discussed the ill-fated match.

"That particular day was pretty heartbreaking for me. We had something really cool that people really wanted to see in Kris Statlander finally getting in the ring with Awesome Kong. Two strong women being able to showcase, and I was excited about it. When I got the call from the doctor saying they would not clear her, my heart was broken for two reasons. It was broken for the fans because I knew they wanted to see the match. But it was broken for me because I knew I had to be in the match. We gave it our best shot in that scenario but I've gone on record to say I'm a part-time wrestler for sure. I'm definitely not someone whoever wants to push to be the full-time, main event female wrestler. That's just not me. I made a big commitment that I would not be a major focal point in the women's division and I'm not," she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Brandi discussed the Nightmare Collective and how things didn't work out with the group. You can find her full comments by clicking here
