Callihan earned his title shot at IMPACT Unbreakable by defeating Tessa Blanchard. The unlikely duo won the IMPACT Mash Up Tournament on July 19. After their victory, it was announced that they would compete in a singles match with the winner being named the number one contender for the IMPACT World Title.

Brian Cage has been absent from IMPACT since Slammiversary in July, where he successfully defended the IMPACT World Title against Michael Elgin. Cage has been dealing with a back injury. In his absence, Callihan had requested Cage hand the title over to him. Cage returned on Friday, announcing he had been cleared by doctors to compete.

Cage vs. Callihan is the first match officially announced for Bound For Glory.
