On the February 9 episode of WWE Raw, Michael Cole informed fans that Breakker was injured during training, underwent surgery, and was out indefinitely. The Wrestling Observer first reported that Breakker underwent surgery for a sports hernia injury. He reportedly suffered the injury on the February 1st episode of WWE Raw
