Bruce Prichard Was Not A Fan Of When WWE Turned Its Website Into A Wrestling News Site, Says They Couldn’t Be Transparent About Everything

Prichard stated that Vince McMahon was in favor of the site being a wrestling news site.
During the latest episode of Bruce Prichard’s Something to Wrestle podcast, he spoke about when WWE converted its official website into a wrestling news site.
He stated that he was not a fan of it, but an alternate route to take was to have a separate site away from WWE’s official website. He added that it was not possible to be transparent about everything. He stated that then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was on board with WWE’s main site being the news site.
“Hated it. Understood it. But I didn’t like it, for all the reasons you just mentioned. Because if you’re gonna go there, you have to go there, and you can’t pick and choose. You want to control the narrative on the bad stuff, and you want to be able to give more information, but you can’t always do that, for legal reasons, and that’s where I had the issue is it’s, okay, but you can’t be half-pregnant. We’re either gonna go there, and it’s own it, but I wouldn’t do it under our umbrella. I would have rather had a separate site. I would not have promoted it on our vehicle, and go ahead and do it. If you’re gonna do it, go do it. But don’t do it half-assed, where you’re doing an angle on television but then over here you’re saying, ah, it’s all bullsh*t. Do it outside of your programming, do it outside of your vehicle, and the issue became we were doing it inside of everything we did. It was all part of everything we did. So it was met with skepticism, one, but also, you couldn’t be transparent on all of it. You just couldn’t. So, that was my hangup. My hangup was, okay, what makes the cut? What doesn’t? And who decides that? Because if you’re doing it where Chris (Chambers, Vice President of Television Strategy at WWE) is gonna make that call, or somebody else is gonna make that call, well, who are they checking with? And where are they getting their information? Because even eternally, people didn’t have the whole real story… You can’t service both sides in the same house. Go buy another house. Do all you want. Compete with the other ones, but you can’t compete from your vehicle.
Vince (McMahon) was a big advocate of it. Again, he felt that, ‘Alright, well, let’s just beat ‘em to the punch. We know before anybody knows’ — with proof anyway — and they’re getting things from talent…”
Prichard is currently with WWE as part of the creative writing team. He was featured in both seasons of Netflix’s WWE: Unreal.
