Bruce Prichard says he currently looks at WWE women's division as 50% of the show and admits that sometimes the women are better than the men.
Women's wrestling in WWE has skyrocketed in the last five years. For many years, WWE female stars were known as ?Divas? and were given less than 10 minutes in the ring normally, prior to that there was a heavy emphasis on using women as eye candy, and prior to that, there was no women's division at all following Medusa leaving WWE for WCW.
However, shortly before WWE fired Medusa allowing her to jump to WCW and trash the WWF women's title live on WCW Nitro, WWE tried to bring in talent from Japan, even hosting a Joshi Survivor Series Elimination bout at the 1995 Survivor Series event just two months before they would scrap the whole division altogether.
On his podcast, Bruce Prichard explains that the reason this did not catch on at the time is that the audience wasn't ready and there was not a wealth of talent stateside that could feasibly sustain a division. In explaining this, Bruce Prichard would say that women's wrestling after 2015 became equal to but the men can provide and occasionally, they surpass what the men provide.
?There wasn't [enough talent] and that's always been a challenge. I think when you look at different divisions. While there may be some great light heavyweights, well, there may not be enough for division, there may be some great women wrestlers, but there weren't enough to have an entire roster of women wrestlers at the time. Also, I don't think that the audience was ready to accept that you didn't have the caliber of athlete that came along in 2015 and has exploded and made it like -- as far as I'm concerned, they're 50 percent of the show and sometimes, the better 50 percent of the show. So it wasn't that way back then.?
