Bryan Danielson: I Told Gedo I Would Love To Do The G1 Climax. I’d Like To Think It’s Possible, But It Seems Unlikely

Bryan Danielson competing in the G1 Climax nearly happened.

Danielson has previously expressed his interest in competing in the tournament, and it seemed possible after Danielson competed at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 and faced Zack Sabre Jr. at NJPW New Beginning in Osaka in February. However, Danielson was not included in the lineup for the competition, which is currently underway.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Danielson revealed that he told NJPW booker Gedo that he wanted to do the tournament.

“Over the winter, I told Gedo, the booker in New Japan, ‘I would love to do the G1 this year!’ I’d just wrestled Zack Sabre in Japan [in February]. I was so excited. It all happened in the heat of the moment. I would like to think it would be possible. I don’t limit possibilities in my mind. But it seems unlikely,” Danielson said.

Danielson then noted that his health was one concern, as he is dealing with neck issues. Plus, he stated that even if Tony Khan let him go, he was not sure he would want to leave his family for so long. Additionally, Danielson expressed his belief that his wife probably would not think it would be good for his health.

“My neck isn’t doing real great right now. So there’s my health. But even if Tony [Khan] freed me up for the entire summer and said, ‘Go do the G1,’ I wouldn’t want to leave my wife and kids for that long. I don’t think my wife would think it was good for my health, either. I’ve always wanted to do the G1. I don’t know if that’s going to be in the cards for me, and that’s OK,” Danielson said.

AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita is currently competing in the NJPW G1 Climax 34.
