Bully Ray Reflects On Vince McMahon’s Reaction To The Dudley Boyz Going 5 Minutes Over On A WWE SmackDown Segment
Bully Ray reflects on an incident in the early 2000s when he and D-Von Dudley appeared on a live episode of SmackDown, where they wrestled the Right to Censor.
WWE, especially in the days under Vince McMahon, was very strictly timed, and only a few select stars were allowed to exceed their time limits without serious repercussions.
During a recent interview with Maven, Bubba Ray Dudley (Bully Ray) and D-Von Dudley reflected on what Vince McMahon told them when they went over during an episode of SmackDown from Madison Square Garden, where they faced Steven Richards’ prudish RTC stable.
“Maven, when we were doing the storyline with the RTC, we got to live SmackDown in Madison Square Garden, and this is the night that the Dudleyz are supposed to join the RTC. But then we turned on the RTC, and we wound up beating up the RTC and putting Stevie Richards through a table. Okay, what’s the punishment for going one minute over on time? What’s the punishment for going two minutes over on time? Three minutes? We went five minutes over our time, unheard of, five minutes over in our time.
“Maven, I walked through the curtain. This is back when there was a curtain at Gorilla. I got one foot through, maybe the next one. There’s the old man right here. This was the message, ‘If you ever go five minutes over on my TV show again, you’d better make sure it was as good as that,’ and he walked away.”
Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley recently retired from wrestling after wrestling The Hardy Boyz at TNA Bound For Glory. Learn more here.
