Carlos Silva: At The End Of The Day, You Check The Promotional Ego On The Sidelines And Create Great Storylines/Matches
Carlos Silva discusses co-promotion.
The partnership between WWE and TNA seemingly continues to get stronger on a daily basis, with TNA recently confirming that AJ Styles will appear at TNA Slammiversary. In addition to that, NXT stars like Trick Williams, Jacy Jayne, Dion Lennox, Saquon Shugars, and many more are also set to compete at the event.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, TNA President Carlos Silva was asked to talk about the nature of co-promoted shows, as the company often collaborates with WWE and Invicta.
“There’s always a little bit of promotional ego that goes into all of these things. But I think at the end of the day, it’s how do you check that on the sidelines and how do you create great storylines and great matches that the fans wanna see? WWE and NXT have been really great in working with us on that and I think we’ve been good partners in figuring stuff out kind of easily. So far we’re all on social together, right, Sean? I’m seeing the same thing you’re seeing and I’m seeing a lot of positives. People are wondering and it’s okay to be on both sides of where this goes. That means that we’re creating some good drama and that’s what it’s all about. But the partnership has been going really well and I think certainly since WrestleMania, I think has really accelerated around creating more and more intricate and fun storylines for the fans in these last 60 or 90 days.”
Silva went on to note that he’s looking into doing weekend takeovers with Invicta.
“I think it could be any of them, Sean. We’re big fans. I think for the fans and certainly for us on the business side, what TKO did in Kansas City with UFC and with WWE and with PBR, I thought was just a super cool weekend. So we’ve been looking at how we do some stuff together with Invicta and how we do a weekend where we have both TNA Wrestling and Invicta. We were looking at possibly doing that in Rhode Island, candidly, but I think it was just a little too soon. But we’re looking at a whole bunch of things around operations and logistics and how to move cages and how to move rings so that we can make it work. Shannon and I were actually together yesterday talking just about that. So I do think as we get through the summer and into the fall, we’ll look at that.”
For those that are unaware of Invicta, Silva provided some brief details on the promotion.
“Coming out of Evolution, I thought that was an awesome night on the all women’s side. Invicta being, for those people that don’t know, being an all women’s MMA league, been around for 12 years. Shannon Knapp’s a Hall of Famer and helps us run the promotion and does all the matchmaking. I think there could be a lot of interesting ways to put it together and see. We’ve also had a little bit of crossover with some of the wrestlers and as well as some of the fighters coming to each of the shows. You’ll see a little bit of that. Shannon’s actually gonna be with us at Slammiversary and we’re actually shooting a bunch of content in and around the city in some of the MMA gyms as well. So we’re already looking at how the two things get smashed together. I think it could be really cool.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Carlos Silva talked about some of the recent staff turnover in TNA. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
