Carmella Said No One Told Her That She And R-Truth Would Split Up

Perhaps one of the more entertaining alliances of the past 18 months was the pairing of R-Truth and Carmella, but the duo's sudden breakup was a surprise to many, including Truth and Carmella.

The duo, which started out as the Mixed Match Challenge season 2 winners, had been a part of many backstage segments involving Truth's many, many reigns as the 24/7 Champion and Carmella helping out Truth. But then that pairing came to an end when Carmella was drafted to SmackDown last year and Truth got drafted to Raw.

Carmella was in shock because no one had told her prior to last year's WWE Draft that they were going to separate brands.

No one told me. No one told us. When they did the draft on SmackDown, I saw that I was drafted to SmackDown and he was not and I’m like ‘wait, what?’ Like, no one told us ‘you’re going to be on RAW and you’re going to be on SmackDown’ – we found out just like everyone else. I feel like we had so much more we could have done. I don’t think I’d reach the point where I was like ‘Ok, I’m over this.’ I feel like it was still exciting and new things were happening all the time. But, at the same time, I think it’s exciting that I’m here now [SmackDown]. Once I can get on a roll and get some momentum, it’s going to be good to be on my own again because it’s been a while since I lost the title to Charlotte Flair. That was SummerSlam 2018 when The Man was born. I’ve been having a lot of fun and showing a lot of different sides to my character, but maybe the time is right to branch out on my own again. I feel I have a lot more to offer than just being this sidekick. It was fun, but I’m ready," Carmella told talkSPORT.

While Truth continues his quest to win the 24/7 title dozens and dozens of times over, Carmella is now aiming to win the SmackDown Women's Championship. Although Carmella is no longer featured alongside Truth, she knows that her time in the spotlight will return once again.

"It can’t always be your time, and I get that. Right now it’s Bayley’s time and Lacey’s time. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville are finally getting this opportunity which I think is amazing. Not every girl can be on TV every single week, it is what it is. But, when my time comes, I’ll be ready for it," Carmella said.
