Cassie Lee (Peyton Royce) Explains How 'The Iconic Duo' Became 'The IIconics'

Cassie Lee, formerly known as Peyton Royce in WWE, explains how the team that was known as "The Iconic Duo" eventually became "The IIconics."

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have been an iconic duo since they first appeared on WWE NXT together. They're such an iconic duo that their original team name was "The Iconic Duo." However, that name would not last and they would eventually adopt the more stylish name of "The IIconics."

Speaking about the scrapped name during a recent interview with DS of Ring the Belle, Cassie Lee says that name was too much of a generic phrase and thus, they were forced to rebrand. Initially, they were going to try to think of something completely separate from the phrase "iconic" but ultimately, they chose not to throw away all of the work they had put into the label.

"Well, they told us we couldn't be 'The Iconic Duo.' It's not copyrighted. I think it couldn't be trademarked because it was just a regular phrase," she explained. "So they were like, 'You've got to come up with something new.' So we were going to come up with something completely different away from that. Then we're like, 'No, this is who we are, and we've put all our work and energy into creating The Iconic Duo.'"

In the past, Cassie has explained that she believes she is to blame for the group being split up on WWE television. Learn more about that here.
