Charlotte Flair speaks to San Antonio Express.
It's been a rough few months for Charlotte Flair in terms of in-ring success. She lost her SmackDown Women's Title to Becky Lynch in the main event of WrestleMania 35, won the title back at Money in the Bank, and then immediately lost it to Bayley, who cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase. Since then, Flair has waited in the wings for her next opportunity to capture gold and move one step closer to her father's 16 World Title reigns.
?I joked about it one time on TV that ?Hey, I am more than halfway to beating my dad?s record,? but to me it is more about my work and about getting better,? Flair said to the San Antonio Express. ?I feel like the Queen is the Queen with or without the title. So, it is one of those things where if I do pass the record it is because ? I won?t take no for an answer and I won?t settle until I get better and get in that next storyline. And whatever role I need to play, I?ll play.?
Flair is currently a nine-time champion with one Divas title reign, four SmackDown title reigns, and four more Raw title reigns.
A catchphrase of Ric Flair was "to be the man; you gotta beat the man." After beating Charlotte for the SmackDown Women's Title in September 2018, that's exactly what Becky Lynch became. And even Charlotte can recognize that.
?That was our first pay-per-view singles match after SummerSlam,? Flair said. ?That was the beginning of what ended up being this tremendous rivalry. So, that is what is most memorable. Once Becky won, she transformed into The Man. Her beating me made her The Man.?
Charlotte will have to wait to become The Man for at least another month as both Becky Lynch and Bayley already have opponents lined up for WWE Extreme Rules in July.
