Charlotte Flair Details Her Time Away From WWE, Wanting To Add A New Layer To Her Career

Charlotte Flair needed a fresh start.

After six months off of TV, Charlotte Flair returned at WWE TLC and helped Asuka capture the Women's Tag Team Titles. The WWE Network has just released a new The Day Of special which focuses primarily on the Queen's mindset.

Charlotte spoke about finally addressing personal and medical needs rather than continuing to put them off. She also said that one of the things that hit her particularly hard was always being asked by interviewers when she was going to have a baby. It affected her and made it even harder to go home, especially during COVID. She added the following:

"It felt like hard times for the company - as talent, as individuals. But I was like, I need to go home. If I'm not going to do this now I'm never going to do it. When I left I felt so deflated, and it's not because I wasn't or didn't feel creative, I just felt like I was at a standstill. I was working NXT, SmackDown, and RAW. I felt like I was doing the best work of my career, but I was not moving forward. I felt like, well am I letting the company down [because] I'm leaving? I've always been there. Regardless of how the fans view me as good or bad, so the last six months I just tried to think about when I do return, what does that look like and what do I want because I have done it all."

Charlotte joked that it was nice to wake up, not worry about going to TV, and just order some pancakes. Although it was hard turning on RAW and seeing her peers shine, she knew she needed the space. It was also a chance to see if the audience would miss her. To actually give them the opportunity to miss her. That also played a big factor in her going dark on social media.

Reflecting on her career and what she hopes for in the future, Charlotte had this to say:

"Yes, I'm satisfied with my career, but I need a new layer. I need a fresh start. This is my first time as a fresh start so yeah, maybe coming back and having fun versus [being] worried about the next day, worried about the next day. I don't know, but at the same time, I'm like, I know when I lace up my boots how competitive I am. The only thing that's changed is I'm able to be more in the moment and feel those nerves once I'm out there. Embrace it instead of [freezing]."

Charlotte is a grand-slam champion in WWE. This is currently her thirteenth championship reign spread across five different titles. She and Asuka have already successfully defended the belts, defeating the teams of Carmella and Bayley as well as Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair on the Christmas Day episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
