Charlotte Flair: ‘I Don't Need To Hold A Championship To Be The Champion’

Charlotte Flair won't say that she means more than the WWE Women's Championships but she knows that after having 13 title reigns, she has worked herself to a different level.

After missing out on WrestleMania 37, Charlotte Flair returned on the Monday Night Raw afterward and stated that “she is the opportunity” when it comes to WWE women's division.

This was an in-character response to some of the backlash that Charlotte Flair receives in real life regarding her success and how it may be perceived as holding back others from opportunity.

During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Charlotte clarified why she calls herself “The Opportunity'' and why she feels her career has evolved beyond just winning championships.

“I think that's kind of the idea of being ‘The Opportunity.’ Everyone [says], ‘Oh, she takes everyone's opportunity!’ So, you spin it and you put some truth into it. 'Well, yeah. Because I am ‘The Opportunity.’”

When asked if she feels like she is now bigger than the Championships, Charlotte would not go that far but would say that she feels she no longer needs championship belts to be considered the champion.

“I don't want to diminish what the championships mean and I don't want to say ‘bigger,’ but I don't need to hold a championship to be the champion.”

As it stands, Charlotte Flair is currently the most decorated woman in WWE history. She's the only woman to hold the Raw Women's Championship, the SmackDown Women's Championship, the NXT Women's Championship, the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, and the now-defunct Divas Championship.

In addition to that, she has been successful inside Hell in a Cell and is the only second-generation Royal Rumble winner in history, truly carving out her place in history.

Charlotte Flair was recently reinstated on this past week's episode of Monday Night Raw. You can catch up with our live coverage here.
