Chelsea Green Had Never Met Ethan Page Before NXT Pairing, Says She’s Trying To Get Him To The Main Roster

Chelsea Green is loving her partnership with Ethan Page.

The duo have created a ton of buzz in recent months, with rumors suggesting that WWE could call up Page to the main roster to work with Green and her slaygents on a regular basis.

Speaking with Gabby LaSpisa of the Gabby AF podcast, Green spoke about her pairing with Page at length, saying that she has never met him before they worked together. Green also noted that she’s stuck on trying to get Page to the main roster.

“I had never met this man in my life. I had always heard about Ethan Page, we’re Canadian, we always know about people on the indie scene. I always knew about him — I don’t wanna say he was coming up at the same time as me because he was on the indies for so much longer than me, he’s been wrestling for like 20 years. As he was seeing his rise, so was I. Funny enough, we never wrestled together. We were never on the same shows, we never crossed paths and because I preached about going home and doing something other than wrestling, I didn’t really know him. I didn’t do my research. They called me and went, ‘Hey, you’re going to come into NXT next week.’ I was like, ‘Sure, say less.’ As I was on my way in, I was like, ‘But what am I doing?’ I thought maybe I had a match and then, ‘Oh, you’re actually coming out to Ethan Page’s promo.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, okay, cool.’ I did not think anything of it and then I was backstage and he walked out to start talking — we really didn’t interact before that. We had a quick rehearsal but not even really getting know each other, we were kind awkward. When you’re two women, that’s one thing trying to figure out your dynamic, that’s already weird when you don’t look alike or have the same character. But now, a man and a woman, that’s different because there are so many things going on that you need to figure out. Usually you would have time or your partners with that person, like you’re literally spouses or something, right? But we had no connection. He walks out and he starts talking and I’m like, ‘Holy shit. Is he — he’s me.’ I was just so caught off guard. I get in the ring and I’m talking and out of my peripherals, I can feel his facial expressions, I can feel his energy. He leans over like this and I’m like, ‘He’s perfect.’ He’s exactly what we’ve been missing that we didn’t even know we’ve been missing. After that promo, I think we both immediately knew that this was something. We just continued to build and learn that we have the same goals in mind and the same work ethic and drive. I would text him like, ‘Hey, do you mind if I pitch you for this, do you mind if we meet up and do this video, do you mind if we do a TikTok, is that weird?’ You have to learn each other’s boundaries and it’s just different with women, it is. At the end of the day, it wasn’t. It’s been way better than I could’ve imagined. I’ve been so stuck on trying to get him to the main roster because I can’t unsee this duo and this group now with the girls too.”

Green also reflected on her TNA/indie pairing with Matt Cardona, explaining why it was difficult for a variety of reasons.

“I think there’s something special about seeing two totally different performers come together and manage to work so in sync and so in unison and so well together. I just never thought that would happen because I had already done that with my husband. It was hard with my husband. In fact, it was harder with my husband than it was with Ethan because you have to go home to your husband at night. You’re already speaking to each other the way you would at home and you have to relearn how to speak to each other at work. Matt and I, we had never worked together when we were stuck together. For Slammiversary, we had to learn in that moment how to talk to each other because the way we talk to each other at home is not the same way we talk to co-workers. The way I talk to Ethan is the way I talk to a co-worker. He’s a friend, I would talk to him the same way I’d be speaking to Maxxine.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Green spoke about Maxxine Dupri’s recent growth. Check out her full comments here.
