Chelsea Green Says She Knew What Michael Hayes Said About Her On WWE: Unreal Would Backfire, Expected Fans To Rally Behind Her

Chelsea Green expected the fans to rally behind her.

It has been well documented that WWE producer Michael Hayes made a remark about Chelsea Green on the Netflix series WWE: Unreal, stating his belief that while Green is entertaining, she should not be in the roles that Charlotte Flair or Tiffany Stratton are in. He said Green’s job is to help build a Stratton or Flair.

Green became the Interim WWE Women’s Champion at SummerSlam by winning a Ladder match that included both Flair and Stratton. She guest-appeared on WWE Now and stated that she knew what Hayes said about her would backfire. Green expected the fans to rally behind her afterward.

“Screwed them?” Green continued, “Yes (I think what Michael Hayes said about me got the fans to rally behind me). Yes! I have thought that since the minute that season one, episode three of Unreal came out. I thought, ‘Oh, this is not gonna be good for the office. But I love it.’ Hello. I’m getting all this love for just being me. For doing nothing out of the ordinary. For literally just showing up to work, doing my job and going home. Unfortunately, for the office, that aired, everyone loved it, and now here we are three seasons later. Unreal season three just came out and it reignited that passion from the fans. I know it did. I know it did; I felt it. I have felt it all weekend; I have felt it all year. I felt it for three years. I really felt it when I won the U.S. Title but it has exploded since then. Exploded, and I thank Michael Hayes for that.”

After Green’s title win, she dedicated her victory to Hayes.
