Chris Jericho: We Wanted To Drive NXT Screaming And Yelling Away From Wednesday And We Did

The Wednesday Night Wars came to an end on April 13 when NXT officially moved to Tuesdays.

Beginning Wednesday, April 14, AEW will run unopposed week-to-week on Wednesday nights. The wars weren't exactly competitive as Dynamite won 63 weeks in terms of total viewership and 74 weeks in the 18 to 49 demographic in the 75 weeks the two companies went against each other.

Speaking to Alfred Konuwa of Forbes, Chris Jericho discussed AEW's victory.

"We’ve never really worried about what NXT was doing. I know WWE NXT was watching our stuff during their show, but this was not a war that we were ever asking for, we were kind of thrust into it by proxy. The reason why we won it and won it so handily, is we never worried about what anybody else was doing, we just worried about our own show. I think the best thing about being unopposed is there’s been a lot of shows that we’ve done with some great segments and some great moments that might have been missed because people were switching back and forth," he said.

Jericho ended by saying, “Of course we’re competitive. Yes, we wanted to beat NXT. Yes, we wanted to drive them screaming and yelling away from Wednesdays and we did that."

Jericho is set to take on Dax Harwood on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
