Christian Cage Has No Plans To Return To IMPACT Wrestling, Surprised WWE Released Samoa Joe

The forbidden door is open, but Christian Cage probably isn't walking through it.

Though AEW and IMPACT have a strong partnership that includes a title vs. title match on Sunday at IMPACT Rebellion, and though Christian is a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion under the TNA/IMPACT banner, he is currently focused on his obligations to AEW.

"I don't have any plans on [returning to Impact] right now. I am solely focused on AEW, but who knows what can happen in the future," Christian said to Chris Mueller of Bleacher Report. "I am relatively new here. I don't think my focus should get too far away from AEW at this point. I am committed to being part of this brand and helping it move forward."

Christian signed a multi-year deal with AEW at Revolution on March 7 and has been featured weekly on Dynamite.

Speaking about another former TNA/IMPACT champion, Christian was asked about Samoa Joe, who was released by WWE on April 15.

Christian said about Joe's release, "That surprised me. Joe is a super-talented guy. You see it in the ring, and obviously he has tremendous verbal skills. He was a natural as a commentator as well. When you have that kind of multi-talented individual who can wear a lot of hats, that’s invaluable. He truly is, in my eyes, a top performer. He's not going to have any shortage of suitors when the time comes, that's for sure."

Christian and Joe shared the ring many times during Christian's run with TNA/IMPACT, including battles over the TNA World Heavyweight Title, which was held by Joe for the majority of 2008.

Christian is set to face Powerhouse Hobbs on Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
