Christopher Daniels: There's No Timetable For AEW Return, I'm At The Mercy Of Circumstance

Fans haven't seen Christopher Daniels on AEW television since he and Frankie Kazarian lost to the Young Bucks on the May 12, 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Daniels has remained active on the Independent scene and wrestled on Chris Jericho's cruise.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Daniels said that he hopes to return to AEW at some point.

"Hopefully, that changes soon," Daniels said when speaking about his on-screen status in AEW, "but the landscape with AEW is in constant flux; additions, subtractions, it's just a crowded field right now but hopefully, I can make my way back there. There is no real timetable as to when that might be so I'm sort of at the mercy of circumstance."

Despite not appearing on television, Daniels has continued to travel with the company as he occupies a behind the scenes role as a talent scout and coralling talent for AEW Dark.

"Yes, every week I travel, a lot of stuff has to do with behind the scenes work, whether it's coaching or talent relations. I'm on the road every week and on the weekends, if I have Indie bookings or other bookings, there they go," he said.

Daniels mentioned that he would like to the opportunity to return and still prove he can go, similar to how Sting, Billy Gunn, and Matt Hardy are still active on-screen and in the ring.

"I feel excited to try and be ready to wrestle. It all depends on the situation. I'm readying myself for these Independent shows and I'm also readying myself to get the call from Tony (Khan) like, 'Hey here's what we want to do when you come back.' I'm in a difficult position at this point because I'm sort of unsure what the future holds for me. A lot of it is just me being prepared and trying to get as good as I can get at this age and still trying to be relevant. It's a tough lane to stay in, for me," he said.

Daniels has been dealing with an eye injury through his time away from AEW and while it doesn't look great -- fans can see the injury in the video below -- it's not hindering him in the ring.

"It's more cosmetic than anything. I've been checked a couple of times, the vision is fine. It's just gnarly looking. When I talked to the doctor about it, he said this can happen on occasion, hemorrhages just don't drain or heal. It doesn't have anything to do with the iris itself, it's just the white of the eye that is sort of discolored. It could dry up in a week or it could be like this for awhile, I have no idea. This is the first time it's ever stuck with me. I've had this injury before, not this eye, but I've had hemorrhages before from black eyes and things like that, but for some reason, this one is just sticking," he said.

It is unknown when or if Daniels will return to AEW television. As a result of him and Kazarian losing to the Young Bucks, SCU was forced to split up.

Kazarian has remained active on AEW television, though in a limited capacity.
