CM Punk On Final Match With John Cena: To Be In His Orbit Means A Lot To Me
CM Punk comments on how grateful he is to share moments with John Cena as Cena wraps up his WWE career.
In the early 2010s, CM Punk and John Cena became perfect on-screen rivals. With their polar opposite personalities, Paul Heyman even compared them to Batman and the Joker. Recently, they got to renew hostilities one more time with CM Punk portraying an early John Cena and mocking him with a Basic Thuganomics parody. John Cena would then go on to defeat CM Punk to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Night of Champions.
Speaking at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, CM Punk admits that he’s become very soft and sentimental in his old age. He also chose to acknowledge John Cena, saying that it’s an honor just to be in his orbit as he goes through his retirement tour.
“I’ve been fortunate to have a pretty long career filled with a lot of great moments. I think that’s just another one. My storied history with Cena, and for it to be wrapping up for him. I mean, he’s only got, like, 14 to 15 dates left. To be able to be in his orbit during his retirement and get to do fun stuff like that, it meant a lot to me. I’m turning very, very soft in my old age, so I am always just overflowing with gratitude. That moment was absolutely no different. I don’t think anybody expected that. It was a little bit different. It was fun. Obviously, I think we’re in the business of creating moments. So again, super grateful I still can do that and contribute at this level.”
