CMLL Cancels Copa Jr. VIP, All Events After New COVID-19 Lockdown Measures In Mexico City

CMLL's Christmas show, the Copa Jr. VIP, has been canceled after Mexican authorities enacted new lockdown measures.

Recently, Mexico City announced new lockdown measures, suspending any and all non-essential activities. This includes CMLL's Christmas show, originally set to take place at Arena Mexico. The Mexican promotion announced that the Copa Jr. VIP and all events behind closed doors have been canceled in response to the new measures.

The Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre informs that, due to the epidemiological change in Mexico City to red, the event that was set to take place live on Friday, December 25 at Arena México has been canceled in line with what authorities have determined.

The Copa Jr. VIP and our events behind closed doors for television will take place as soon as the authorities of the CDMX authorize it.

CMLL reiterates its commitment as a responsible company and committed to the health of the fighters and staff and invites the fans to strengthen hygienic, preventive and restrictive measures to stop the increase in COVID-19 infections.

The show was set to feature a pair of title matches: Volador Jr. vs. Bandido for the NWA Historical Welterweight Championship as well as Ultimo Guerrero, Euforia & Gran Guerrero vs. Sanson, Cuatrero & Forastero for the CMLL World Trios titles. 

The wrestlers originally set to compete in the 2020 Copa Jr. VIP were El Felino, Felino Jr., Negro Casas, Soberano Jr., Stuka Jr., Mephisto, Atlantis Jr., Mistico, Caristico, Niebla Roja, Angel De Oro & Star Jr.
