Cody Defended The IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title Against Joey Ryan In A Game Of Rock, Paper, Scissors

An eventful night down under.

The fans in attendance over the weekend at the Australian-based wrestling promotion 'World Series Wrestling's' shows were in for a treat on top of the in-ring action they witnessed. Both Joey Ryan and the current IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Champion Cody are scheduled for the four-day WSW tour but both wrestlers are dealing with injuries at the moment. Joey Ryan revealed earlier this month during MLW's 'Fightland' tapings that he tore his pectoral and although Joey is taking time away from in-ring competition, he is still making his scheduled dates.

Cody's meniscus is damaged but he is powering through and has plans to continue on with his ROH World Championship match against Jay Lethal at 'Final Battle' and competing at Wrestle Kingdom 13 as well.

Both Joey Ryan and Cody decided to have themselves an impromptu IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title match at 'World Series Wrestling's' International Assault shows over the weekend. On night one in Melbourne Cody put the title on the line against Joey in a staring contest and Cody emerged victorious and on night two in Perth, Australia the two played a game of rock, paper, scissors with the gold on the line.

During a 'Ten Pounds Of Gold' episode back in September, "The American Nightmare" Cody shared that he is set to become a free agent on January 1st. Cody has been in headlines as of late because of the trademarks filed which link back to the wrestling promotion that The Elite were rumored to be kick-starting.
