Cody Rhodes Challenges Sammy Guevara To Ladder Match For TNT Title At AEW Dynamite: Beach Break

The TNT Champion has returned to All Elite Wrestling.

After defeating Sammy Guevara for the title on New Year’s Eve, Rhodes was set for a rematch with Sammy at Battle of the Belts but was pulled from the show after being placed in isolation following contact with a family member who tested positive for COVID-19.

Additionally, in the time that Cody has been gone, Fightful Select learned and reported that Rhodes’ contract with AEW had expired and that he was a free agent. Not only that, but he has been working, amicably, without a deal for a couple of weeks.

Cody came out tonight and before saying anything he grabbed a ladder and set it up in the middle of the ring. He proceeded to mention his two weeks away and how he is tired of seeing the Young Bucks defeat former NXT talents. He also discussed Brody King and said he has the balls to come into AEW and keep the name Brody (referencing Brodie Lee). Throughout he also made mention of his contract status, noting that before the forbidden door was a thing he was the one who built it.

In conclusion, Cody challenged Sammy Guevara to a ladder match at next week's Beach Break edition of Dynamite to crown an undisputed TNT Champion. The match has yet to be made official.
