Cody Rhodes On His Father: "I'm More Like Him Than I Ever Realized"

The old saying "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" rings true when looking at Cody Rhodes and his late father Dusty Rhodes and Cody said he really is like his father.

In an interview with USA Today, Cody talked about how he didn't want to be like his father because he didn't think it would sell tickets. Upon further insight, Cody said he has learned that he wants to be like his father.

“I think the biggest thing I’ve gotten out of this is I learned how much I want to be like my dad," Cody said. "For so long, I have tried not to be my dad, because that doesn’t sell tickets. That doesn’t help – to be a repeat, a novelty or a parody or a replication. Since he’s gone, I find myself in control of my own business and being my own boss. That’s where I’ve found that I am more like him than I ever realized. That’s been a fun thing to realize. Dusty was always his own boss even when he was in polka dots. It’s cool to feel him that way.”

Dusty Rhodes passed away in 2015 and was a former three-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 and had been helping train the next generation of WWE superstars at the Performance Center in his final years.

Cody, on the hand, had a distinguished WWE career, having won the Intercontinental Championship and WWE Tag Team Titles on multiple occasions before leaving the company in 2016. Cody is now wrestling all over the world with numerous promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling and WCPW.
