Cody Rhodes Reflects On France’s Reaction To AJ Styles, Calls It The Greatest Reaction He’s Ever Seen
The reactions that AJ Styles gets in France are the greatest reactions Cody Rhodes has seen.
In 2024, Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles feuded over the Undisputed WWE Championship. One of their bouts took place at Backlash in Lyon, France.
As the introductions were taking place, the crowd started doing a ‘phenomenal’ chant for Styles. They first did it the night prior on Friday Night SmackDown and chanted it throughout the entire Rhodes/Styles segment.
Rhodes reflected on that while he was on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike show and said it is the greatest reaction he’s ever seen, and he is glad he was in the ring for it.
“The greatest reaction I ever saw — and Indianapolis can very likely top it. I know they’re thinking of topping it — is France, as far as pro wrestling goes. Lyon for me, Paris most recently for WWE but I was in the ring with AJ Styles and I couldn’t hear. Like, if we were talking now, I couldn’t hear, and he was discreetly telling me, ‘We’re about to run off the air,’ but it was so loud for him, singing a song that our hard camera was shaking… You want your moment, you know? But I remember watching that and thinking, I’m so glad I get to be in the ring.”
Styles got a warm welcome from France on the Raw after Clash in Paris. They chanted ‘phenomenal’ at him from the time his music stopped and through an entire commercial break.
