Cody Rhodes Says He Loves The Term ‘Golden Boy’
Cody Rhodes has started his third reign as Undisputed WWE Champion, defeating Drew McIntyre on the March 6 episode of WWE SmackDown.
Speaking to Complex Graps, Cody was asked how he would like this reign to be defined.
“I remember coming out of Philadelphia, and it almost felt like a campaign. ‘I want to bring back the Winged Eagle.’ Got that for a brief glimmer of time.’I want to wrestle consistently,’ which was so great because going into France, I had AJ Styles, which was a wrestler’s wrestling match. Even at my experience level in pro wrestling, I still haven’t fully found who I am. I’d like this to be the reign that defines who I am. I heard a term that was said in a condescending fashion, but I didn’t take it that way. I actually blushed. I heard someone say, ‘Golden Boy.’ I loved it. I don’t know if I was supposed to love it, especially with how they were saying it. I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll lean into that.’ Maybe that’s the identity of this reign. Maybe I’ll lean into that. In terms of output, I’m outrunning everybody on the treadmill right now, even the guy who I consider my largest competition. If that’s going to be the case, I’ll take the Golden Boy moniker. Let’s see where it goes. I might even dial up my WrestleMania gear to lean into it further. I’d like this reign to give me an identity that perhaps I’ve been seeking,” said Cody.
He is set to defend the title against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.
