Cody Rhodes Says No Wrestler Has Ever Said That They Want Lose Their Title

Cody Rhodes denies that he pitched to lose the WWE Championship.

Over the course of his career, Rhodes has won several championship belts, whether it was in Ring of Honor, All Elite Wrestling, or WWE. One thing he’s never done is pitch to lose a title.

Speaking on the Double Coverage Podcast, Rhodes talked about a story that circulated on social media that he pitched to lose his WWE Title.

“I don’t want to dismiss a fan and their opinion. If they hate you, they hate you. If they think you’re fat, they think you’re fat. If they think you suck, they- There’s no wrong way to be a fan. But what I can say is the conversations that take place on, say X specifically, they only take place there…These stories are wildly made up and then you’ll read three months later. I remember there’s a story. Here’s how I knew it had gotten crazy. It was a story that I had pitched to lose the title. Now I saw somebody referencing, this is like eight months ago, ‘Well, don’t forget when he pitched it.’ If you ever hear a story of a wrestler pitching to lose a title, you should know right out of the gate. They’re lying. No wrestler has ever said- You know what, there’s a difference between an old man figuring out who his last opponent is, but no wrestler has ever said, ‘Yeah, I want to, I need to lose the title.’ My gosh, that’s the meal ticket. You want somebody to take it from you. You don’t pitch it. I saw that being talked about as if it was actual evidence. I thought, ‘Oh man, I wish you knew that these conversations are just here. They’re just here. Come to a show and you will see people are having a great time. They love all of it.’”

Rhodes has won the Undisputed WWE Championship three times since returning to the promotion back in 2022.

Elsewhere in the interview, Rhodes talked about the WWE Championship being a “walking billboard.” Fans can read more about it here.
