Cody Rhodes Speaks About El Grande Americano: “He’s Taken Something That Could Have Been A Death Sentence For Another Wrestler”

High praise from Rhodes to El Grande.

The newest edition of NBA Champion Matt Barnes’ ALL THE SMOKE podcast featured a sit-down chat with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

Among the topics they dove into, one of them was Rhodes’ transition from being himself on WWE television to playing the role of Stardust.

He compared that to El Grande Americano, who is currently played by Ludwig Kaiser. Rhodes said he has taken something that could have been a death sentence for another wrestler and is making it work.

“Well, so at the beginning of Stardust, I looked at it as a real — this was in the era of you’re not getting a lot of playing time. But they want you to do something special — this character. You’re gonna be with your brother, Goldust. So I looked at it as a challenge to maximize. To really kind of make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t essentially. That’s always a big thing in wrestling. Take something that’s always a little silly, and then you blow it up. El Grande Americano’s a guy we got right now, who is doing this exact thing. He’s taken something that could have been a death sentence for another wrestler and is just making it special, and they don’t mean it to be a death sentence but they mean it to be a challenge…”

The latest on the El Grande front is that he was in action on the 11/4 Monday Night Raw. He fell in defeat to Penta.

The El Grande character was previously played by Chad Gable, but when Gable stepped away due to injury, Kaiser filled in.
