Cody Rhodes Was Mad More People In AEW Didn't Defend Orange Cassidy Signing

Cody Rhodes defends AEW signing Orange Cassidy.

When All Elite Wrestling announced that Orange Cassidy would be signing with the promotion, the move was met by some backlash from fans. Cassidy is known for his more comedy style of wrestling and AEW has made every effort to tell fans that their product will be more serious and sports-based.

When asked by a fan at Starrcast III about the Orange Cassidy signing, Cody defended the move and was upset others in the company didn't do the same.

"I was a little pissed when we announced Orange Cassidy, and everyone got mad. Well, not everyone just Jim [Cornette], [Vince] Russo. They got mad," recalled Cody. "Then nobody defended him. I barely know the guy and I'm tweeting, 'He's a great wrestler,' because he is. I was mad. I didn't tell Matt or Nick [Jackson], 'Hey man, this is your hire. We have to take care of our own here. We have to defend our guy.' We did not say, 'We're introducing you to the AEW World Heavyweight Champion Orange Cassidy.' But everyone should get an opportunity. How hard is it, in this day and age with our terrible attention spans, how hard is it to make people laugh, cry, and care? If you can check one of those boxes, come on over to AEW."

Cody continued, offering up praise for Orange's wrestling style

"I don't know how he does it, with the hands," wondered Cody. "And I am concerned. But, let's watch it unfold. We're in this weird stage where everyone is standing over our shoulders while we paint this picture like, 'Oh, I don't know.' Let us paint the damn thing and then tell us if it sucked or if it's really good. Orange Cassidy can go and people know he can go."

Cassidy made his AEW debut at Double or Nothing, participating in the Casino Battle Royale. He is not scheduled for a match at All Out.
