Taking fans behind the scenes on how Cole and Yoshihiko prepared for the bout, Cole revealed to Jeremy Lambert & Joel Pearl on In The Weeds that the whole match was a shoot.

"Basically, the whole Yoshihiko match...you're wrestling a fucking doll. If we're looking at it in the purest context. In the least amount of context, this doll is a legend in Japan, has had these cool and interesting matches with a whole bunch of people. Going into the weekend, I was like, 'We're going to be match three or four. We're going to have eight to ten minutes and it is what it is.' Show day comes and one of the referees comes up and is like, 'you're the main event. Have fun.' We're in California. There are some California delicacies that everyone likes to enjoy, and I may or may not have enjoyed a couple of them. I'm like, 'Okay. Main event of DDT vs. GCW, Mania week, against Yoshihiko.' I tried to pitch some ideas, didn't get any feedback. Tried to see how they were feeling, got nothing. 'Alright, guess we're going to go out there and start shooting.' Came up with some ideas and it played out," he said.

During the bout, Cole threw multiple chairs in the ring in a variety of ways. The chair toss started when Cole tossed the first chair over the top and it landed on Yoshihiko.

"That was the most improvised spot I did that became my favorite part of the match because it became how many times I could chuck a chair and directly hit the doll in different fashions," he said.

Cole closed by saying, "If that match goes wrong, there is only one person to blame."

Cole and Yoshihiko traded wins and the DDT Iron Man Heavy Metal Championships to close GCW vs. DDT. Cole won the official match, but lost under the 24/7 rules of the championship.
