Conrad Thompson Recalls Almost Getting Scammed By The Ultimate Warrior On A Title Purchase

Conrad Thompson was almost scammed by The Ultimate Warrior.
Before his passing in 2014, Ultimate Warrior tried to sell multiple title belts to Conrad Thompson. Warrior claimed that the belts were show-worn, which prompted Thompson to contact Dave Millican.
“So I was introduced to him through his website. He had a bunch of photos up there and there was a photo that was no longer linked, but he claimed it was the SummerSlam 1990 belt that he wore against Ravishing Rick Rude. So I took those pictures and I sent them to belt maker Dave Millican. I said, ‘Hey, is this right?’ and he goes, ‘Absolutely not. That’s not the ring used belt.'” Conrad Thompson told Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp in a new interview. “So when I bring that to Warrior’s attention by email, he’s like, ‘Well, it is. Your buddy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.’ He has no idea that it’s the actual belt maker who would have made the belts. Then he said, ‘What are you really after?’ and I said, ‘Well, I’m really after the yellow Intercontinental and the World title from WrestleMania 6,’ because when I was a kid, Sean, that was as good as it got—Hogan versus the Warrior. Those were my guys. I was all about WrestleMania 6.”
Dave Millican was the person that ended up saving Thompson from getting scammed.
“So we agreed to make a deal for both of those belts. He wanted me to bring cash and meet him in an airport and the whole thing. So I had used Dave Millican before to authenticate my belt purchase on the big gold belt. So I asked him if he would tag along and authenticate this one for me. He told me that Warrior had sold the Intercontinental years ago and it was on the shelf of a private collector. When I threw the flag on that, he sent me a photo of the guy’s collection, which in that world is a no-no. You’re not supposed to share other guys’ collections. I don’t know why I broke all the rules on that with my collection, but still it was like a little disappointing to realize that one of your childhood favorites was trying to sell you something that he in fact had already sold—AKA he was lying and conning and bullshitting me. So, the deal never went anywhere. When I presented that to him, he blew a gasket and it is what it is. But when I was nine I still had an Ultimate Warrior birthday cake and he’s still the old—alright. Jim Hellwig may have been a turd, but the Ultimate Warrior ruled.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Conrad Thompson commented on the future of Bruce Pritchard on Something To Wrestle With. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
