Corey Graves says some live crowds are vocal minorities.
Sometimes in WWE, the live crowds do not react to the product as intended. In an interview with Sam Roberts, Corey Graves explained why he must deflect that reaction on commentary. He gave an example of a particular time he did it.
"Neville always used to compliment me because that would happen and there was one particular night the crowd turned and they weren't into whatever they were doing. I said something about 'the WWE Universe doesn't realize right now they are inciting Neville and they are firing him up,'" said Graves.
Graves also said the crowds at the WWE shows don't necessarily represent all of WWE's fans.
"When you have an entire stadium of people go one way, it's weird. But at the end of the day, you have to remember there might be 60,000 people in the building doing this one thing but there's 2 million people watching on WWE Network," said Graves.
To support his statement, Graves brought up the Raw and Smackdown episodes following WrestleMania. He said those live crowds' reactions may confuse someone who happened to watch WrestleMania and then caught the next week of television. He said that's why he has to explain the crowds behavior on commentary.
