In today’s column, we will be looking at 33 Fun Facts About Wrestlemania, from ‘Mania 1 to ‘Mania 33.
‘Mania 1 Fun Fact: The first title change in ‘Mania history took place at this event as The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff defeated Mike Rotunda & Barry Windham to win the WWE Tag Team Titles.
‘Mania 2 Fun Fact: This is the only ‘Mania to take place at 3 separate locations, those locations were the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York…Rosemont Horizon in Rosemont, Illinois…LA Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.
‘Mania 3 Fun Fact: Only 2 of the 12 matches that were a part of the card went over 10 minutes--Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat and Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant.
‘Mania 4 Fun Fact: The only tournament held in ‘Mania history was held here, with Randy Savage winning the tournament and the WWE Championship.
‘Mania 5 Fun Fact: This was the second straight ‘Mania held at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Trump Plaza is still the only place to hold two straight ‘Mania’s.
‘Mania 6 Fun Fact: Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior became the first two “face” wrestlers to headline a ‘Mania event.
‘Mania 7 Fun Fact: The event was originally set to be held at the LA Memorial Coliseum, but due to terror threats (in reality there were low ticket sales), the event was moved to the LA Memorial Sports Arena.
‘Mania 8 Fun Fact: Roddy Piper suffered his first televised pin fall loss at this show, dropping the WWE Intercontinental Title to Bret Hart.
‘Mania 9 Fun Fact: This was the first Wrestlemania to be held outdoors, in the parking lot of Caesars Palace.
‘Mania 10 Fun Fact: This was the first and the only time the WWE Title was defended twice on the same card as Yokozuna retained the title by defeating Lex Luger, but would then lose it to Bret Hart in the main event.
‘Mania 11 Fun Fact: Pamela Anderson was supposed to accompany Shawn Michaels to the ring for his match with Diesel, but she wound up accompanying Diesel to the ring for unknown reasons.
‘Mania 12 Fun Fact: The first and only fall in the 60 Minute Iron Man Match occurred in overtime, as Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart to win the WWE Title.
‘Mania 13 Fun Fact: The Undertaker would win his first WWE Title at a ‘Mania at Wrestlemania 13, defeating Psycho Sid to win the gold.
‘Mania 14 Fun Fact: Taka Michinoku would defeat Aguila to retain the WWE Light Heavyweight Title at this event, the only WWE Light Heavyweight Title bout in ‘Mania history.
‘Mania 15 Fun Fact: D-Lo Brown & Test challenged (unsuccessfully) for the WWE Tag Team Titles at the event, an opportunity they earned by winning a pre-show Battle Royal on WWE Sunday Night Heat.
‘Mania 2000 Fun Fact: The only singles match on this show took place between Terri and The Kat, it was a two person battle royal won by Terri.
‘Mania 17 Fun Fact: 5 title changes took place at this ‘Mania, the most in the history of the event.
‘Mania 18 Fun Fact: Mr. Perfect & Hulk Hogan, who last competed at ‘Mania 9, both returned at this event and both lost (as they both did at ‘Mania 9).
‘Mania 19 Fun Fact: Nathan Jones was supposed to be The Undertaker’s tag team partner, but his in ring work was so bad that the WWE officials just changed the match to a Handicapped Match.
‘Mania 20 Fun Fact: Molly Holly put her hair on the line in a storyline she pitched to WWE creative after she realized there would be no WWE Women’s Title Match on the card.
‘Mania 21 Fun Fact: This is the only ‘Mania without a tag team match on the card, other than the Money In The Bank Ladder Match, everything else on the card was a singles match.
‘Mania 22 Fun Fact: This would be the final ‘Mania held in an arena as every single one after this event was held in a stadium.
‘Mania 23 Fun Fact: Current United States President Donald Trump participated in a “Battle Of The Billionaires” against Vince McMahon, which ended with McMahon getting his head shaved bald.
‘Mania 24 Fun Fact: This would be the final time that Playboy was involved in a ‘Mania, with Beth Phoenix & Melina defeating Maria & Ashley in a Playboy Bunnymania Lumberjill Match.
‘Mania 25 Fun Fact: Matt & Jeff Hardy would join Bret & Owen Hart as the lone combinations of real life brothers to face each other at a ‘Mania.
‘Mania 26 Fun Fact: Vickie Guerrero, in a tribute to her late husband Eddie Guerrero, hit Kelly Kelly with his patented frog splash (with help from Michelle McCool & Layla) to get the win in a 10 woman tag match.
‘Mania 27 Fun Fact: Edge would compete in his final pro wrestling match at this event, and would retire a week later due to a series of neck injuries.
‘Mania 28 Fun Fact: Sheamus would win the quickest WWE Title Match in ‘Mania history, defeating Daniel Bryan in just 18 seconds.
‘Mania 29 Fun Fact: A match between Brodus Clay, A-Train, Naomi & Cameron vs. Damian Sandow, Cody Rhodes & The Bella Twins was canceled at the last second due to the show running long.
‘Mania 30 Fun Fact: The Undertaker would suffer his first loss in ‘Mania history, ending his winning streak at 21.
‘Mania 31 Fun Fact: WCW legend Sting would compete in his first and only ‘Mania, losing to Triple H.
‘Mania 32 Fun Fact: Shane McMahon competed at his first ‘Mania in 15 years, making it the longest gap between matches at a ‘Mania for any wrestler.
‘Mania 33 Fun Fact: Based on the wrestlers listed by WWE.com for the 4th Annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, Big Show can become the first two-time winner of the match (he won the 2nd Annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal).
Bonus Fun Fact: ‘Mania 4 has the most matches in the history of the event at 16, ‘Mania 33 is currently at 12.
