From there, Kai became a larger part of the black and gold brand. Her feud with Shayna Baszler was the launch pad for her NXT career that saw her compete in a War Games match, have feuds with the likes of Tegan Nox, Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai, and win the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships on two seperate occasions with tag team partner Raquel Gonzalez.

Kai's last match with the promotion came on the 4/12 edition of NXT 2.0, where she unsuccessfully challenged Mandy Rose for the NXT Women's Championship. Before that, Kai and Raquel Gonzalez had lost their NXT Women's Tag Team Championships to Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) in a match on the 4/5 edition of NXT 2.0.

One day following her release, Kai took to Twitter and shared the following message:

"Above everything, thank you all. I am so overwhelmed at all the love and support. The DMs, txts, tweets.. you all have my heart. I love you.

I am thankful for being able to meet, work and intertwine with so many beautiful people, people I looked up to, people I learned from.. I met some of my best friends over these last few years that will remain in my life forever.

I don't know what's next for me. I chose 'Evie' at 17 years old. That chapter is shut.. just know this; I'm far from being done.

Before her run with WWE, Kai wrestled under the name Evie in promotions like SHIMMER, Progress, and Impact Pro.
