Daniel Bryan shares his thoughts on his return earlier this year.

WWE cameras followed Daniel Bryan on the day of his WWE Title defense against AJ Styles on December 16th at the TLC pay-per-view. Daniel revealed that when he returned earlier this year, he felt trapped because he wanted to insert a new style of wrestling to work under but everyone wanted him to be the Daniel Bryan of old and do the moves he did prior to his sidelining injury. Bryan closed his statement by saying that winning the WWE Championship and getting rid of the old has felt like liberation.

“I felt a little trapped when I came back. I had this new idea for a style that I wanted to wrestle. But when you come back at WrestleMania, people [were] telling me, ‘Aw, they wanna see if you’re okay and if you’re healthy. They wanna see you do all the old stuff. They wanna see [you] do all the dropkicks in the corner and then dives through the ropes’ and all this kind of stuff, and it felt like a trap." He said. "Like I fought so hard to get back to doing something that I love but then to be trapped into a certain way of doing it, and granted, regardless of how you go out there and do what we do, it’s a joy to do and it’s a pleasure especially when you haven’t done it for so long. But then after a while, when doing the dropkicks in the corner starts to wear thin, and you no longer want to dive through the ropes, then it feels like a trap, and so now, winning the WWE Championship - getting rid of the old, it feels like liberation.”
